The album is Trout's first fully fledged blues album in 23 years as a bandleader, drawing on his experiences playing with legends such as John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Finis Tasby, Pee Wee Crayton, Lowell Fulsom, Percy Mayfield and Joe Tex when he first arrived in Los Angeles in 1973. Great White
-On Feb 20th 2003, 100 people died after pyrotechnics ignited a club during a gig by Great White in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Great White singer Ty Longley was also killed in the accident. The B4 Alternative Reminisced on Good Times and Bad Times of the Year 2011 and counted down the Top 30 Song releases of the year according to the B4 Alternative.

Here is the countdown and be sure to catch the Encore to hear the awesome playlist!

THE B4 ALTERNATIVE’S TOP 30 SONGS OF 2011
In 2011 we saw a ton of CD’s arrive on the shelves at the various locations you would take a gander to find new music. This is a list of the BEST in my opinion. I’m not going by album titles; rather I went with the best 30 songs that came out this year, and they may or may not have had major radio play. The amount of major radio play did not factor into my list at all. It’s a list of top 30 songs that I based off of how enjoyable the song was to myself.
Again, this is all strictly in my opinion. It didn’t matter if it was played a billion times on the radio, or if it got one spin on the air. It didn’t matter if it was the number one song on iTunes, or if it didn’t even get released on iTunes (of course these days, if you’re not releasing your music on iTunes, you’re either just plain stupid or have been living under a rock for the past decade.). It’s just simply the top 30 songs that stood out to me from the past year.
30. Dropkick Murphies - Going out in Style
29. Social Distortion – Machine Gun Blues
28. Lee DeWyze – Never There
27. Pitbull – Give Me Everything (Feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack, & Nayer)
26. Kottonmouth Kings - Kalifornia
25. Chickenfoot – Last Temptation
24. Black Stone Cherry – Blame it on the Boom Boom
23. “Weird Al” Yankovic – Party in the CIA
22. Aaron Lewis – Country Boy

10. Foo Fighters - Rope

Rock News 12-16-2011

Rock Report
ROCK REPORT 12-15-11
Queens of the stoneage
Not much is known about the current status of Queens of the Stone Age's first new
album since 2007′s 'Era Vulgaris,' but there have been a few mentions of the currently
in-the-works project. While the band initially said the album would be further in the
direction of 'Era Vulgaris,' Homme later told The Guardian that rehearsing the debut
album had influenced the writing process:

"Doing the rehearsals for the first record is really defining the new one. It's been turning
the new record into something else. What we were doing was kind of bluesy, and now
it's turned into this trancey, broken thing. The robots are back!"

Outside of that there has not been much said of the album that was believed to be out
by the end of 2011. According to frequent collaborator Alain Johannes, the band is
keeping a pretty tight lid on the "super top secret" album — which he is involved with in
at least a production capacity.

Shinedown
Shinedown will follow up their massive hit record ‘The Sound of Madness’ with what’s
expected to be one of the biggest rock albums of the year, and depending on its
direction — possibly one of the biggest albums released in any genre.

It may not seem like it, but it’s been almost four years since the release of the platinum-
selling album ‘The Sound of Madness’ — the fact that they’ve had a single in heavy
rotation at rock radio consistently since a month prior to the album’s release has made
it feel like they’ve never left. Their landmark record got an extension on its success with
last year’s deluxe edition that included the radio hit ‘Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-
Lay Boom)’ — a song originally recorded for ‘The Expendables’ soundtrack that ended
up being one of the most played rock songs of 2011.

The band began recording their fourth record in August so it is likely that the new
material will surface sometime in 2012 — but not definite. Guitarist Zach Myers said
their previous record took 24 months to write, and that Smith will remove clocks and
calendars from the studio while recording because he doesn’t like to put a time limit on
creativity.

Buy Lou Reed's Airbuds and get his CD

Lou Reed
If you ever wondered what Lou Reed was hearing in his ears when was recording Lulu, wonder no more. Following in the footsteps of Dr. Dre and Daft Punk, Reed has partnered with Klipsch for his own variation on their X10i line of earbuds (via Exclaim!).

Available next month for the price of $399.99, Lou’s earbuds come with a three-button remote and 360 degree microphone. In addition, every package includes a Lou Reed autograph, and the first 50 buyers will receive an unidentified album, also signed by Reed. Presumably it will be one of Lou Reed’s albums, but here’s wishing it’s absolutely not one of Lou Reed’s albums.

Says Reed in an issued statement: “I have been a fan of Klipsch for eons. I enjoy the beauty of the unhyped bass — the clarity and depth of detail and extraordinary comfort of the headphones. These are my Klipsch. Serious headphones for the serious listener.”

Guns N' Roses Update

guns n roses

GUNS N' ROSES current concert swing through North America has generated plenty of talk about a follow-up to 2008's Chinese Democracy. But keyboardist Dizzy Reed, who's been part of GN'R since 1990 - second only to founding frontman Axl Rose - doesn't feel a new release is imminent. "We haven't really talked a lot about that," Reed tells Billboard.com. "There's a lot we've recorded, a lot of material back when we started working on Chinese Democracy, so there's a quite a bit of unreleased stuff that would be really cool to finish and put out."

In addition to that, he adds, "everyone has great ideas and songs and stuff, so we're always sort of bouncing stuff off each other. I'm recording stuff all the time; I'll record something and say, 'Hey, this might be cool' and play it for everybody and just kind of go from there. I think eventually something's got to give, and then it's gonna come out."

CD's Out By 2013????

CD pic

After it virtually killed off the cassette tape and the short lived mini-disc, the compact disc may be dead within two years according to industry insiders.

According to Side Line Music Magazine, the shelf life of the CD is set to expire before 2013. The magazine reports that most major labels are planning to stop producing the little shiny discs that were all the rage in the 80′s, and replace them with streaming and digital download options. Most of these plans are set to take effect at some point in 2012, with the only CD’s still available being limited edition prints which will only be made for major artists.

The format’s popularity has decreased drastically since the rise of digital retailers such as iTunes and Amazon. Another contributing factor in the discontinuation being the drop in overall music sales due to the exponential increase of online piracy over the last decade. This move doesn’t really come as a surprise, but it is somewhat sad for those who grew up with and still utilize the format.

Detroit says no Nickelback at Thanksgiving Please

Nickelbackchad
Nearly 40,000 Detroit rock fans have signed a petition calling for Nickelback to be ditched as the half-time entertainment during a high-profile football game.

The Canadian band have been booked to appear at the nationally-televised Thanksgiving game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers on November 24.

But thousands have come out in support of an online campaign to have them replaced.

The Change.org petition reads: “Do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians
and they chose Nickelback?

“Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during half-time to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions?

“This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs.”

First week sales of Metallica-Lou Reed Album = Awful

Lou Reed
First-week sales awful for Metallica-Lou Reed Album
First-week sales of Metallica’s collaboration album with Lou Reed are set to be just three percent of what their previous record, Death Magnetic, achieved.

Lulu is estimated to have shifted between 12,000 and 15,000 copies since it went on sale in the US on November 1.

But in 2008 Death Magnetic sold 490,000 in its first week, even though the time period was just three days because it was put out on a Friday.

Even the band’s 2003 fan-bating release St Anger generated 418,000 purchases in its four-day first week.

Lulu, which Reed admitted has got him death threats from Metallica fans, made its highest chart placing in Sweden, where it reached number nine. It made 11 in Norway, 17 in the Netherlands, 20 in Finland, 30 in Belgium, 33 in Australia and 36 in the UK.

Corey Taylor of Slipknot solo release?

slipknot
Corey Taylor has a busy year ahead of him. In addition to his upcoming solo tour, and 2012 dates with Slipknot in Australia and the U.S., the singer-guitarist said he's planning to get back in the studio with his other band, Stone Sour.

"Right now we're just working on demos...and a pretty grandiose idea that I've been kind of chewing on for a long time," Taylor told Billboard.com. "On a musical scale, artistically, visually, we're going to swing for the fences with this one. If we can pull it off, it would be really cool and... put a lot of people in their place. I'm really excited to get working on it."

Taylor said that Stone Sour will begin working on the follow-up to 2010's Audio Secrecy in between Slipknot's Australian tour in February and March and a summer trek in North America. But, first up is his solo tour, to promote his new book Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good. He'll do 19 dates, starting November 14, which will incorporate Q&A sessions with audience members and musical performances. "It's everything I love to do in a show – basically run my mouth and play guitar and sing," Taylor said. "It's almost like if Johnny Cash and Henry Rollins were the same person, this is the kind of show they would do."

ICP fans a gang?

images
Fans of notorious US hip-hop group Insane Clown Posse have been officially classified as a gang. A new FBI document has categorised the Juggalos as a "loosely-organised hybrid gang," citing the group's violence, criminal activity and "gang-like behaviour".

Fans of the Insane Clown Posse have called themselves Juggalos for more than two decades, developing a reputation for face-paint, Faygo soda, and a scepticism toward magnets.

Unfortunately for harmless fans of horrorcore rap, Juggalos are now officially "of concern to law enforcement," according to the FBI's 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report. Juggalos have been tied to a string of recent crimes, including a shooting in January and the assault of a homeless man last year. "Open source reporting suggests that a small number of Juggalos are forming more organised subsets and engaging in more gang-like criminal activity," the report alleges. "Transient, criminal Juggalo groups pose a threat to communities due to the potential for violence, drug use/sales, and their general destructive and violent nature."While the FBI report only mentions the Insane Clown Posse in a footnote, ICP are not just a soundtrack for the subculture. The group is named after an ICP song, The Juggla, and the Detroit-based rappers organise the annual Gathering of the Juggalos, which attracts more than 20,000 fans. Despite their scary reputation, the Posse has even been described as a Christian group.

Although the FBI's gang designation is unlikely to have an immediate effect on ICP, its fans, or friends such as Jack White, many Juggalos are upset. In just a few days, more than 200 people have signed a petition asking the FBI to revise their decision. "Juggalos are a family that have each other's backs," explained a supporter based in Tennessee. "They're people who would die for somebody they haven't even met."

Dating Website finds you partner through music taste

Nickelbackchad
Whether their music gives the ladies a visual image of Chad Kroeger’s poodle-perm or because ‘Figured You Out’ is about dirty whore-bangin’, a new study says that Nickelback’s music is about as attractive as braided armpit hair.

The music/dating website
Tastebuds.fm helps people find companions they are musically compatible with. They’ve also been responsible for a number of music/sex related surveys — they made news earlier this year with a poll that said Nirvana fans were the most likely to put out on the first date.

The websites most recent survey examined the exact opposite end of that spectrum. When asked what bands were turn-offs, an average of 13% of Tastebuds.fm users (both sexes) said that they would not engage in sexual relations with someone who was a Nickelback fan. While the pop-rock group stood alone at first, they were followed by fellow Canadian/Billboard chart neighbor Justin Bieber — who landed at #2. Other rock groups in the top 10 included
Creed, U2, and Coldplay.

Nickelback’s new album (that will most likely not get you laid) ‘Here and Now’ is set for release on November 21st.

Lou Reed receives Death Threats

Lou Reed
Lou Reed says he's received a number of death threats from Metallica fans over Lulu, his collaboration album with the thrash giants.

Supporters were shocked when the controversial coupling was revealed earlier this year, and many have remained unimpressed with what they've heard. Most reviews have been lukewarm too. But Reed says he doesn't care – because he only did it for fun.

The veteran art rocker tells USA Today: "They are threatening to shoot me, and that's only because I showed up. They haven't even heard the record yet and they're recommending various forms of torture and death."

New Megadeth Album

Megadeth

Megadeth have posted a stream of 'Black Swan,' a song from their forthcoming album 'TH1RT3EN,' which comes out Nov. 1. The song was originally released as a bonus track for members of the band's fan club as a pre-order bonus in 2007. The new version of the track features cleaner production courtesy of Johnny K and more intricate lead guitar work.

Amy Winehouse died due to Alcohol

Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse's death was the result of the singer drinking too much alcohol, a coroner has said A verdict of misadventure was recorded into the 27-year-old's death after an inquest heard she was more than five times the drink-drive limit. Winehouse was found dead at her home in Camden, north London, on 23 July. St Pancras coroner Suzanne Greenway said the "unintended consequence" of Winehouse drinking so much alcohol was her "sudden and unexpected death". Three empty vodka bottles two large and one small, were found at her flat, St Pancras Coroners Court heard. The inquest heard the singer, who won five Grammy awards in 2008, had 416mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal drink-drive limit is 80mg. The pathologist who conducted her post-mortem examination said 350mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood was considered a fatal level.

The examination found Winehouse's vital organs had been in good health but she had huge amounts of alcohol in her system which could have stopped her breathing and sent her into a coma. Toxicology tests showed there were no illegal substances in her system when she died.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler Got Food Poisoning

Steven Tyler Aerosmith

Steven Tyler's shower accident on Tuesday is being blamed on dehydration as a result of food poisoning. TMZ reports sources connected to the Aerosmith singer tell them Tyler was suffering from dehydration caused by a bout of food poisoning when he collapsed in a Paraguay hotel shower. Tyler was treated at a hospital in Paraguay's capital for injuries to his face, including the loss of two teeth and cuts to his eyebrow and mouth.

Disturbed Taking Hiatus After Tour

Disturbed

While headlining this summer's Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, Disturbed announced that they would take an indefinite hiatus after their touring cycle was complete. Then the band announced last month that they will release a B-sides collection, The Lost Children, on November 8. Many fans have been left wondering if this marks the final chapter of Disturbed, but guitarist Dan Donegan says he hopes it is just a break during which everyone will recharge their creative batteries.

"We're not stopping to pursue other things -- at least I'm not," he told Billboard.com. "We're kind of looking to just go away for a bit, give the fans a little bit of a break, give ourselves a bit of a break. There's not some great game plan or design to all of this." As for when the group may come together again, Donegan explained, "I don't know if it will be six months or six years or whatever. I really don't. It's kind of scary to me to think, 'What if we don't return?' That part of it bothers me." However, he added that he really doesn't think a permanent break up will happen. "My hopes are if we're away from it long enough we're gonna want it that much more," he said. "I like to think that as much as we've done together and how good the chemistry has been in the band, there's going to come a time -- hopefully sooner than later -- that we're gonna turn around and say, 'Man, I f***in' miss this. I want to get back there.' I'll be surprised if that doesn't happen, really."

As for The Lost Children, the set includes a previously unreleased track called "Mine," as well as the rarities "God of the Mind" and "A Welcome Burden," which appeared on the 2010 reissue of The Sickness; "Monster," "Two Worlds" and "Sickened," which were included as bonus tracks on the U.K. tour edition of Ten Thousand Fists; and "Parasite," which appeared on the Japanese edition of Indestructible.

Rock News

Nirvana

After making its mark as an alt-rock anthem 20 years ago, Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has been re-appropriated by everyone from Patti Smith to the folks behind Moulin Rouge. Later this fall, the song might get its most startling reworking when it's delivered by some of our Muppet pals in the new film, The Muppets.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the movie's soundtrack includes the Nirvana track performed by The Muppets Barbershop Quartet. Seeing as it's been reported that Dave Grohl has a cameo in the movie, just maybe the two are connected.

The film stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams, who attempt to help Kermit, Gonzo and the gang save their theater from evil oilman Tex Richman (played by Chris Cooper). The movie opens on November 23.

Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie has been slow-rolling details for his upcoming witch film 'The Lords of Salem', the latest of which says that his guitarist John 5 will compose and record the musical score.

Rob Zombie has always taken a family approach when making films. Not in the sense that he makes movies for families (quite the opposite really), but that he often works within the same circle of people — casting friends and actors he's previously worked with. So when it came time to recruit someone to score his upcoming witchcraft horror tale, he didn't have to look very far.

Zombie announced that his guitarist John 5 will handle the musical duties for the 2012 film. John has released several solo albums and honed his dark sound over the years working with acts like Marilyn Manson and Rob Halford.

Slash has almost 20 songs ready for his next album. The guitarist has been working on songs for his second solo album for some time, and now we're hearing he has a wealth of material to choose from for the upcoming recording sessions.
On his blog this week, bassist Todd Kerns shares some details on Slash's project. "We have been working on riffs for a whilesince we were on the road even," writes Todd.
"Those riffs have ballooned to almost 20 songs and growing. We have been hard at it in several writing sessions and are now in the midst of 2 weeks rehearsal. We'll be entering Barefoot Studios with Eric Valentine in a few days to start work on the first few songs. We'll finish up the record before the end of the year."

System of a Down

The words every System of a Down fan has longed to hear since 2006 have finally been spoken. Now that we know a new album is going to happen — the question is when?
System of a Down played the gigantic Brazilian music festival Rock in Rio on Sunday (Oct. 2nd). After the gig, Multishow caught up with drummer John Dolmayan and asked him about the possibility of a new album from the recently reformed quartet. John gave the cautious but re-assuring response:
"I know there's a lot of people waiting for an album; I'm waiting for an album just like they are. It's gonna happen when it's right and when we can make something that tops what we've done in the past."

Buckcherry has been announced as the tour support for Guns N’ Roses on a handful of dates for the upcoming U.S. tour.
Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd was once a candidate to front the band
Velvet Revolver, which consists mostly of former members of GN’R. While he didn’t end up replacing Axl Rose as the voice in front of Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum — he will be the voice in front of Axlsort of.
It was just announced that Buckcherry will be the openers for the upcoming Fall 2011 Guns N’ Roses U.S. Tour. Buckcherry is scheduled for five dates thus far and more may be added. The band already has separate dates booked starting in mid-November — so it’s likely that another opener will be named for the latter half of the tour.

Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor says that the band’s next project is not only starting to look like a concept album, but that it may be a double album as well. A concept double album?
Stone Sour looks to join the ranks of bands like
Smashing Pumpkins and Coheed and Cambria as they gear up to release a two-disc concept album. In a recent interview Corey Taylor told Artisan News about Stone Sour’s upcoming record:
“The thing I can say is that it’s like little bits and pieces of the first three albums, but it’s very dark. I’ve got a story
it’s almost a concept album that I’m writing right now — and it might turn into a double album. There’s a lot of really good material that we’re all kinda coming up with and I’m really excited to get in to the studio and see what happens.”

Korn had to put the breaks on the release of their dubstep EP a few months ago, and it may have been one of the best decisions they’ve ever made. After the success of the single ‘Get Up’, there is a renewed sense of interest in the band that wasn’t quite there during the release of their last album ‘Korn III: Remember Who You Are’. The project, now known as ‘The Path to Totality’, was expanded into a full-length album which is scheduled for release November 15th.
The band has also contributed the theme song, which at this point has no title, to the next installment in the popular video game franchise — Silent Hill.

We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening. R.E.M.”

Cornell recently spoke with ARTISTdirect about the new Soundgarden material and how it will compare to Cornell’s solo efforts: “Well, no matter what, Soundgarden is always going to be heavier. However, I also think musically the new Soundgarden stuff is different than anything we’ve ever done.”
He continued, “Having said that, I think that’s a theme we’ve always had. I think every time we’ve made a record it wasn’t really that easy to compare it to the previous one — other than that we’re the same band. I think may be some moments that are sort of sonically quieter and more stripped-down. On the whole, it’s a rock record. That’s what we do.”
Soundgarden’s as-yet-untitled upcoming album is expected to drop in the spring of 2012.

It's been a long time coming for fans, but Bob Seger is making some of his classic material available digitally via iTunes for the first time. Available now are Seger's two multiplatinum concert albums — "Live Bullet" (1976) and "Nine Tonight" (1981) — released for download at iTunes and Amazon. Also making its iTunes debut is "Early Seger Vol. 1," a collection of spruced-up tracks and previously unreleased fare from the early 1970s.
To celebrate Seger's introduction to iTunes, a digital 'Bonus EP' will be available for "Live Bullet" and "Nine Tonight" download for one week only exclusively through iTunes. The disc includes tunes such as "Mainstreet" and live versions of "Hollywood Nights" and "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." images-6
Five Finger Death Punch took an unexpected turn with the video for their latest single 'Under an Over It' — while parts of it look more like a mid-90s rap video, guitarist Zoltan Bathory claims the inspiration was purely "c**k rock".
"We wanted to hit a pretty sarcastic tone with it, so it looks like a typical big c**k rock video, but in a tongue in cheek way. We put all the 'big-time video' clichés in it except for the booty shake or maybe we even got that, I don't remember. We do have the party scenes, cars, airplanes, mansions, pools and girls—of course you can't have a raaawwwk video without your token pool scene."

A man has been charged after breaking into singer Celine Dion's house and running a bath, Montreal police said.
The 36-year-old also raided the star's fridge before an alarm alerted police, who arrested him on the premises.
Police spokesman Franco Di Genova said Dion and her husband were not at home at the time of the break-in.
He said the man had jumped a fence to get on the property and used a garage door opener he found in an unlocked vehicle to gain access to the house.
"He opened the water faucets, was pouring a nice warmish bath," Di Genova said.
"He even managed to eat some pastry that was in the fridge."
The officers came face-to-face with the intruder, who told them he was a family friend.
Officers checked with a security guard, who confirmed that no visitors were expected in the house.
Snack wrappers were then discovered in the kitchen, as well as cigarette butts and discarded notes in an office.
The intruder has been named as Daniel Bedard, a resident of Laval, the suburb where Dion's house is located.

An interesting update on the progress of the new Aerosmith album has surfaced courtesy of producer Jack Douglas. The rock legends entered guitarist Joe Perry's The Boneyard studio in suburban Boston and their main studio, Pandora's Box, early this summer with long-time producer Douglas to begin recording their 14th studio album and first set of original material since 2001's "Just Push Play" and first studio album since 2004's blues covers CD, "Honkin' On Bobo."
Douglas has shared an update on the new project. "The new album should be out around May 2012," reports Jack. "I know that's a long wait, but after the South American tour and Japan in October, November and December, we will just get back to work on it in mid-January. For those who are asking, this album will be raw, nasty, tough rock with a good deal of the old Aerosmith 'tongue in cheek.'"

Back in 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that’s been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is “Leck Mich Im Arsch” or literally translated to English as “Lick me in the arse.” Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece it’s due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?
With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville’s very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” marries Mozart’s melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP’s poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B’s monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways.
The 7″ single and iTunes digital download of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” will be available for sale on September 13th. One-hundred Tri-color versions of the single will be available from the Third Man Rolling Record Store at the MI Fest in Brooklyn, Michigan on September 17th and another 50 Tri-colors will be randomly inserted into mail orders dispatched by Third Man Records.
